Fun Before Fifty Diaries: 52 marathons in 52 weeks

This update is long overdue! Since my last post on 10 August, much has happened. Specifically, six marathons have happened including three in 24 hours last Friday and Saturday. A full update will come later this week about that epic event but this post is to update you on a subtle change to my Fun Before Fifty target. In short, I’ve replaced the arbitrary 47 marathons and 3 cycling sportives in 46 weeks with a much simpler goal of 52 marathons in 52 weeks from 14 July 2023 to 11 July 2024.

A sneak preview OF the next diary update – at the end of 24 hours (well actually it was 20), 3 marathon medals

So why the change?

There are three reasons for shifting to the target of 52 marathons in 52 weeks:

  • It allows me to take on one of the iconic challenges of marathon running, that being 52 marathons in 52 weeks
  • It’s a whole lot simpler and makes more sense than 47 marathons and 3 cycling events in 46 weeks 🤔
  • It will include my first 100 mile running event at Track Wars XX (yes, back to Walton Athletics Track)

Having completed just under 80 miles at last week’s Track event over 20 hours (more to come as promised), I really do want to take on the challenge of 100 miles and it feels very achievable.

It doesn’t change the highlight event of the campaign, that being the celebration of my 100th marathon on my 50th birthday, 1 June 2024.

What’s next?

What comes next is (at least) two marathons in 4 days this weekend. I will definitely be at Saturn Running on Thursday and at Richmond RunFest on Sunday. Whether I run at Phoenix on Saturday will depend on how much the heat takes out of me on Thursday, but RunFest is my favourite event of any running year and one I’ve completed five times, so I will not be missing that without great cause.

I’ll be hoping to add a sixth Richmond RunFest marathon medal to my collection on Sunday

I will be updating the Event Calendar today to reflect the most updated schedule but it is, of course ever changing!!

Above all, thank you all for your encouragement and support, all of which means the world. Promised updates to follow but, for now, it’s a warm wave good-bye from me!
