What IF… 2018 in Review

December 18, 2018 Rohan Kallicharan Leave a comment

My look back on 2018, a year when triumph and disaster were both met in the same manner, when the boy in his 40’s truly became a man.

Seven years ago today... I became a marathoner! It’s been life changing.

I’m happier, more purposeful & resilient, better physical & mental health. When things go wrong, I #TrustTheProcess, as @marathontalk would say.

This weekend is #37 with the best still to come! #ukrunchat #runnersofinstagram #running #26point2

One of the most important things I’ve learnt is that it’s impossible to evolve our #resilience until we accept the challenges that we face.

When we accept those challenges, it gives us the freedom to overcome or walk away from them.

When we ignore them, we stand still and allow those challenges to engulf us.

Perfection out on and around the Thames Path in SW London this morning, comfortable in HR zone 3.

Headspace & lifting of clouds, and even as the clouds inevitably return tomorrow, the clarity of thought to prevail 😊 #mentalhealth #running #ukrunchat #runnersofinstagram

We talk so much about #resilience. The truth is that the measure of success will evolve with every moment of our lives.

Sometimes we need to be building tools to improve and overcome; at other times it’s enough simply to survive.

Whatever you do, be kind to yourself. Resilience can never be built when we batter ourselves.

Four years ago today, @brightonmarathonweekend ... becoming, in my own eyes, the most unlikely sub-3 hour marathon runner ever! Followed by a slightly more likely meal! #ukrunchat #runnersofinstagram

Friday night pie... but not just any pie!! A biryani pie or, more accurately, the Empire Biryani from @gunpowder_london! A fine restaurant meal kit and as good as it looks! 👌🏾🌶🇮🇳

No point sugarcoating it... this week has been utterly sh1t on multiple levels.

In many ways, I know it’s not going to change overnight. These times make us stronger and grow a deep connection with those walking alongside us.

In the meantime, a run was a great way to put the week to bed and clear the head for the weekend #ukrunchat #mentalhealth

Can’t say it was the most confident I’ve been on a bike but nice to get back in the saddle a week after last Thursday’s little contretemps with two runners in the cycle lane!! Wounds healed, confidence will return... thanks Toby for the loan of this lovely 🚲!

Very nice to get out and complete the first round of our @claphampioneers club championship!

Didn’t expect to be running this weekend so soon after flying off my bike on Thursday so very happy to be out there... time totally irrelevant!
