Media: Songs of Praise – May 2021

When I first received a telephone call from a researcher at the BBC, I was certain that someone was pulling my leg! However, after several emails back and forth, I spoke with the said researcher about my journey of faith, about God’s work in my life, about the purpose which has driven me as marathon runner and in raising awareness around mental health. Imagine my surprise, then, when they asked me if I’d like to appear in Songs of Praise.

It was a privilege to appear on one of the countries longest running and iconic programmes. Moreover, it is always a joy to speak of the way in which God has blessed my life.

It doesn’t take a genius to realise how differently this story could have ended. There isn’t a day when I don’t wake up and immediately give thanks for everything I have, when I don’t give thanks for the paramedics who saved a life on which I have given up.

Every day is an opportunity to change the lives of others in distress. Every day is an opportunity to sing the praises of the Lord who so powerfully uses every moment, every broken vessel, for His glory and for His people.

Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

I hope you enjoy the clip and I hope, somewhere, that it inspires you on your own journey. A huge thanks to everyone at Songs of Praise, particularly Pam Rhodes and Mark Warburton with whom it was a privilege to work.
